As the new track season approaches, many athletes are mentally and physically preparing for the upcoming season.
With track conditioning starting again, many athletes have been attending pre-season workouts to build endurance, strength, and general fitness. This is going to help the athletes get into the mindset for competitive success and prepare them for the upcoming season.
“Mentally, I just have to think about the past, like when I go to a meet, I need to have the mindset of I’ve done this stuff before, so I’m not nervous or anything.” Jordan McCord — a student athlete — said. “Physically, I get a lot of rest before my meets, and I like to eat; not too much, but a healthy amount.”
Being mentally ready and prepared while doing sports can help strengthen you and your mindset for games, meets, etc.
Coach Washington said, “If you’re not mentally tough, and you have any doubts or fears going through your mind before a race, especially, you will not perform well … Making sure that they’re following the training regimen that we provide for them, trying to help them choose good nutrition plans, hydration, focus on the flexibility, helping them make good decisions, and not just on track, but also in life, so they’re not tied up in drama, so they don’t mess up in mental health.”
Good luck to all of our athletes as they prepare for another successful season!
