History is filled with a number of bizarre events and there are quite a few that have happened in the month of April. From popular holidays like April’s Fools day and Easter there are bound to be some interesting and sometimes odd things happening in the month of April.
Contradictory to the title of this article it seems like there will be a really interesting event that has happened in the month of April but if we told you that the most boring day in history was April 11,1954 you would probably be wondering why we featured it. In fact, a scientist named Tunstall-Pedoe created a generator with over 300 million individual facts that helped him determine what day in history is the most boring or uneventful. Nothing of importance happened on April 11, 1954 and that’s what makes it so interesting to so many people. Not everyone believes this to be the most boring day because in 1930 on April 18 the BBC broadcasting station had no news that was worth as interesting to them and they played piano music for 15 minutes before starting the actual news report which contained very boring information. Even though there are people who disagree about one day being more boring than the other it is certain that the most boring day in history has happened during April.
In the late fifteenth century it was popular for explorers to search for a northwest passage to Asia but that didn’t exist so people started to search for a way to the North Pole. Many parties tried to get there and most ended in fatal disasters while only few were rescued. It was really hard due to the lack of technology and the cold weather. Robert Edwin Peary was the first to reach Greenland and over many years he tried with two other explorers including Mathew Alexander Henson to find a way to the North Pole. He got close but failed on this and his next attempt. Peary was not ready to give up however so in July 1908 he started his third expedition. He started from Cape Sheridan onto Cape Columbia. By April 6, 1909 Peary, Henson, and their party made it to the North Pole.
These are just a couple stories from the month of April. We hope you enjoyed them and found them interesting.
