FDHS football coaches are already on the movie preparing our players for success and for their future here at Douglass and beyond.
Our football team here at Frederick Douglass has been having a tough schedule so far. Although it can feel frustrating and deflating as a fan, Coach Mr.McPeek is training his athletes to work harder to prepare them for next level football. He purposely designed his schedule so that our schedule has us playing the best teams now to prepare our athletes for the playoffs later in the season.
“I’m looking forward to the team’s growth, looking forward to guys you know succeeding getting better each week and that’s really important to me” said Coach McPeek.
Because we are playing harder teams in the beginning, we are putting a lot of effort and time into the beginning to get stronger and play in the playoffs and the future. Our coach especially makes sure the players are comfortable and ready to play, he treats them with respect, honesty, and kindness.
“I always say that every athlete has to meet me halfway, you know they have to meet me at least 50% of the way on the hard work, the dedication, the schedule, that includes everything, and the diet the way they work in the weight room,” said McPeek. “You know their school work everything all right so every little thing matters”
Most athletes say that even though they have a lot of school work, they have to balance school, home, and other important things in their life. Working hard, keeping up with your work, and meeting your coach halfway can lead to success.
“You know football is routine based. So you got to get in that routine day to day, got to get your sleep, got to get your hydration. All those things to be a really good player and a student, plus you throw in all the academics and that 24 hours is taking up so definitely a time management schedule,” said McPeek.
Many of our athletes here at Douglass can all say that if you do not manage your time well it can lead to failure. You need to put all your effort into trying and succeeding.
“Before my games I listen to music to build confidence. It makes me look forward to winning. Doing the little things like getting tackles and scoring,” said by one of our former athletes Micheal Adams.
With all this effort from our players, and work from our coaches, Douglass football will succeed and we are very excited to see it.
