The bathrooms at Douglass are causing many student frustrations.
Complaints you often hear amongst the students: the bathrooms are always locked, the 15/15 rule is unfair, teachers are getting mad, and who knows what you are going to run into in there.
Because many of the bathrooms are locked throughout the day, it’s causing students to miss more class on their journey to find an open bathroom.
“I do not like it because I have to travel and do a whole hike just to use the bathroom.” said Addison Tuttle, freshman.
Unfortunately, the admin team doesn’t want to keep the bathrooms closed, but they have to out of necessity.
“The traffic flow concentrates towards the middle of the building because that’s where we are able to provide the most supervision,” said Mrs. Hayden, Dean of Students. “I wish I could trust people more and not have to lock up the bathrooms.
Lots of students are frustrated with 15/15 which is where you can’t leave for the first 15 minutes of class or the last 15 minutes.
“ It’s way too long if you can’t use the bathroom during the first 15 or last 15 a someone could be waiting for 30 minutes just to use the bathroom.” said Freshman, Asha Oldham
You have to think about the teacher’s frustration too with students always wanting to use the bathroom which disrupts the lesson they could have spent hours planning.
“I do feel guilty because I don’t want to stop someone from using the bathroom. It does annoy me when I’m in the middle of a sentence and someone blurts it out.” said Journalism teacher Mrs. Vincent.
But how long is this going to go on for?
“I think we could get to a point where students could be more trusted with restrooms being more open during the day If we start to see less students vaping and fighting,” said Mrs. Hayden
