This festival is an event where theater students can come together to learn from industry professionals and celebrate each other’s achievements. The festival will be held at the River Park Center from November 7th to the 9th.
The Thespian festival is an important opportunity for up and coming theater and drama students as it allows students to make connections with fellow students as well as professionals in the theater industry.
“It helps them make connections from across the entire state of Kentucky and continue building and growing their relationships in the theater community,” says Mr. Meenach, Theatre teacher. “Theaters students get to learn a lot from this festival as they see some truly outstanding performances that inspire.”
During the Thespian festival, students will participate in individual events and workshops led by industry professionals and college/university professors.
“They get to see about a dozen live performances in two days. In addition to that there are opportunities to meet with college representatives and even audition for college scholarships that are rewarded at the festival,” says Mr. Meenach.
Students must have 10 accumulated points to become an official Thespian. There are several ways to earn these points such as working on shows at Douglass or in the community.
“Any student who is interested may come to the festival their first year, but by their second year they must be an official Thespian” says Mr. Meenach.
Good luck to all participating students!
