Frederick Douglass is pleased to house the 3rd place winners of the STN podcast interview. This award is very impressive for our students to place in because of the tough competition.
To better understand what the competition consisted of, we were able to talk to Mackenzie Ostrander. She was one of the medalists who allowed us to get insight on this event.
“It was a 5 minute podcast and the prompt we received that morning was; what is something you had to learn the hard way?” Ostrander said. “So we went and we took that prompt and asked each other that question and edited it together to make it 5 minutes, sent it in and got third place.”
As amazing as the results of the competition turned out you would be surprised to learn of the challenges that came with it.
“The challenges were definitely recording it because at the event it was very loud, so we had to find a quiet place,” said Ostrander. “One thing that is really difficult in audio stuff is making sure that it sounds good, like that you aren’t popping your p’s because it messes up the microphone quality.”
Along with the challenges that came with recording, the groups had requirements that had to be fulfilled. These are the requirements other than the 5 minute time restriction.
“The requirements were just that we had to answer that question really,” stated Ostrander, “and the fact that it had to be an interview, but that was about it.”
With all the technicalities aside, winning always feels good, even if it isn’t first place.
“It felt really good honestly, originally I didn’t think that we even did it right in the first place because I thought that we were supposed to be interviewing other people outside of our group.” Informed Ostrander. “But it turns out it was good enough to be 3rd place.”
Mackenzie Ostrander and Riley Stinson are incredible with all of the challenges they overcame, requirements they fulfilled, and the honor of getting 3rd place in STN’s podcast interview. Congratulations to this team!
