A study done in the US by the National Center for Education Statistics and the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that 1 in 5 students will be bullied in their school career. Unfortunately, bullying is a lot more common than it may seem and bullying may be happening to you or someone you know. We compiled a list of tips that may help stop these bullies and try to get people or you the assistance that they need.
- Be Inclusive of those who Are Bullied
Even though this is a blanket statement and always depends on the situation it can be really beneficial to include those who are bullied in activities with your group and try to compliment them on something about their personality or outfit as it can be really beneficial for that person and will make them feel more confident about themselves. It’s really really important to try and be kind to others as you don’t want to accidentally add fuel to the fire and make the person who is bullied feel even more secluded from everyone at school.
- Talk to a Trusted Adult
Oftentimes it can be really hard to find the courage to talk to an adult about the bullying you or another person may have experienced but it may stop unwanted attention from bullies in its tracks. It is also recommended to not react with violence towards the bully as they can spin their situation and make it harder for you to find help. If you do end up deciding to talk to an adult make sure to only present them with facts as it can be hard for an adult to accuse a person of bullying while only relying on word of mouth.
- Encourage Kids to Give each other Compliments
Giving compliments will boost kids confidence and will most likely make them give compliments to others spreading positivity. Saying kind things will out power the bullying and help prevent it all together. If you see a student down or just want to give a compliment do it because it might make their day.
- Help Kids focus of their Strength
Helping people focus on what they are best will make them feel good about himself and spread positivity. If they know their strength they will likely use them for the better and help others instead of putting them down. It will lift others and to make them use their strength creating a never ending chain. It is important to show your strengths but also remember to work on your weaknesses so they might become your strengths.
We hope these four tips will help you if you are ever bullied or see someone being bullied. It is always important to stand up to the bully them and get help.
