The Bandana Project is a student-led mental health awareness program here at Douglass!
Student volunteers wear green bandanas on their backpacks signaling to other students that they are a safe person to reach out to during a mental health crisis. In addition to being an additional mental health resource here at our school, they are working hard within their club to get things done in their sub-committees.
One of the committees is the social committee. This is a committee where in the bandanna project it’s when a group of the students talk about what the bandanna project is and how to get more involved with mental health awareness. For example in the social committee they were talking about starting to hang around posters and do little scavenger hunts.
“I would say the bandanna project is definitely a fun program to be part of,” says Kee Daily, a freshman. “Being part of the social committee is really nice to come together and make ideas to show awareness.”
It sounds like a really nice committee and program and something students should get involved with during high school.
Another committee is the digital media. This committee is where students in this committee will get together and film TikToks and make logos and other stuff. Recently they have been making videos to promote the bandanna project.
Finally, we have the events committee. This is the committee that runs all the fundraisers, after school events and also the volunteer work. This is definitely the committee where you have a social interactions with people in person.
I am someone who is part of the bandanna project and would definitely recommend this program and figuring out what committee is best for them. Also if joining a meeting you get a green bandanna to tie on your bag to represent the bandanna project.
