On Tuesday, students in creative writing with Mr. Mason were just introduced to their final project of the year, and they’re getting a jump start.
Does this benefit students? I would say it does. Starting my final project early makes me feel like I’m working towards something for the end of the year, and it’s also close enough to the end of year to where getting introduced to your final project is likely.
However, some other students aren’t enjoying the jump start, and it makes sense. Let’s say you have a test in a class, not a final, just a regular test. But when you go to your next class, you’re being stressed with a final you thought wasn’t due until finals week, so it can sort of feel like you’re being faced with the stress of finals, while the actual finals are a few weeks away.
On the other hand, getting a head start on your finals could give you extra time to study, and for a break during finals week, because you would have already completed your final in that class. Normally, in the finals schedule, you get 1-2 classes off, but if you’ve completed a final early, you may get an extra class or two off, resulting in a whole day if your schedule makes you lucky.
Neutrally, you probably wouldn’t care either way, and you’re probably just waiting until the end of May.
In conclusion, a lot of students feel differently about this, but I feel like starting your finals early can be beneficial, it’ll give you more opportunities to prepare and be successful.
