School Cheer leading competitions have finally started.
These past two Saturdays, the cheer team has had their regional competitions at Mason County High School and Rupp Arena.
It was their first time putting their routine on the mat that they have been working on since the season started.
To prepare for competition, cheerleaders will have 7 minutes on three different mats to warm-up and rehearse.
Once ready, they perform their routine (which is a mix of stunts, tumbling, and coordinated moves) in front of the crowd.
“It’s the best but worst feeling. There are so many highs and lows but at the end of the day I love competing and it makes me feel more motivated cause we have practice everyday,” says senior Ella Denton. When asked what she looks forward to the most, Ella said, “The anticipation before we go and hitting our routine and winning.”
Winning these competitions matter because it can lead to future bids at bigger competitions such as the National Championship in Disney World!
