History was made by the Frederick Douglass High School Dance Team, when they qualified for the KHSAA (Kentucky High School Athletic Association) state competition this past weekend in all 3 categories for the first time in Douglass history.
With their hard work and dedication, the team placed 4th in Jazz and Game Day, and 6th in Pom. Piper Crouch, a freshman on the Douglass Dance team, expresses the amount of work needed to get them where they are.
“…we practiced three days a week…so Mondays and Wednesdays and sometimes Fridays for two hours,” Crouch says. “And we’ve done our routines at games and pep rallies to help us.”
Another member of the team, Chloe Lagagsorn, expands on how tough their competition was.
“We went against really good people,” states Lagagsorn, “…we just knew we had to really bring it.”
Although the competition was fierce, the team continued to overcome the challenges and make their way to the state competition.
We look forward to cheering on our Broncos this next weekend for the UDA (Universal Dance Competition) Regionals.
“It’s important to be involved in your school,” remarks Stephanie Miner, a mom of a student dancer. “And so I feel like dancing for her is a way for her to do something she loves, but also show her school spirit and be involved in the Bronco Way.”
