Last week, the senior class in the Biomed program did a three day dissection on either a cat or a pig.
“The goal was to figure out the cause of death,” says Lila Toponak, senior.
After making a hypothesis on the cause of death, students had to perform an autopsy on their selected corps. They had to use a dissection kit to examine the organs, the heart, pancreas, thymus, lungs, intestines, spleen, and brain- they even had to weigh each body part!
“I learned that applying everything we have learned about the body systems to a complete dissection was challenging but rewarding. Taking our time to see how it all connected gave us a much better understanding on how anatomy works.” says Lila Toponak.

This summative project is a big part of the Biomedical program in their senior year to showcase what they have learned throughout their past years.
