On Wednesday, February 11th, and Friday, February 13th, Frederick Douglass High School Students made the choice to protest against the recent events involving Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE). One was staff-supported, and the other was student-driven.

Both turned out to be very successful protests. But, a lot of time and planning goes into planning something like a protest with hundreds of students planning to participate, especially a student-led walkout. Who did this? Why did they do this? How was it done? Do they think this was successful?
The person who set this up, asked to remain anonymous. “I just think it’s important for people to find a role in their community.” The anonymous student stated. “I just think it’s important to fight for the people that you live with, like, for your neighbors, for your friends, the people you talk to every day. Like, some of them can’t go out and do this. Some of them can’t, like, express their support.”
They continued to say, “Some of them live in fear because ICE agents are out on the streets, and they’re being commanded by President Donald Trump to do all of these things, like, unconstitutionally. So I think it’s fair to fight for that, because we do have amendments and it’s not gonna change, because human rights are not going to be judged.”
With this inspiring, confident, and determined mindset, the student along with others such as fellow students, staff, etc. were able to set up protests to show their support for the people around them. And to let them know that even though right now is a scary time for everyone involved, we are all going to stick together through this.
